The United Nations in pre-2003 Iraq. $100 billion in revenues........

Corruption.

by StFerdIII

Besides bringing democratic force to the Middle East, and beginning the long process of Arab-national socialist regime change in a bad neighborhood, the US invasion of Iraq has let in shafts of light to illuminate the sewer hole that is the United Nations. Kofi Annan and his French, Russian, Chinese and German friends and supporters, never expected the US to be doing audits in Baghdad. With the US now controlling Iraq we can witness the American audit of the UNO, and can now see the magnitude of its putrid corruption. The UNO is of course an organization that lives off of other people’s money, and the monumental scale of its fraudulent practices necessitates criminal indictments.

In the real world, criminality is met with jail time or the death sentence. In the liberal-socialist fantasy land of ‘multi-lateralism’, international agencies and their employees can trade with criminal firms, support terrorists and tyrannical fascists, and make obscene profits through illegal business, and then be glorified by the media as enlightened internationalists, who are saving the world from the ruthlessness of Anglo-American capitalism. The fanaticism of the multi-lateralists in defending the United Nations and its corrupt Oil for Food program in Iraq, borders on a jihadist’s desire to kill and enter heaven to appease Allah. In the real world such criminality as is evidenced in the Oil for Food scam would be met with severe consequences. But not of course in the Peter Pan Never Land of the liberal-socialists.

No consequences, or very few anyways, will arise from the current corruption probe into the UNO being conducted by Paul Volcker. Criminality and corrupt run amok in the UNO but don’t expect any heads to roll, legal sentences to be handed out, or even people to be fired. Volcker’s report is nevertheless a shocker. The depth of depravity of the UNO is worse than most of its severest critics had alleged. The total amount of the fraud is $100 Billion, far higher than the $60 billion previously estimated. At least $21 billion of the funds are unaccounted for and probably either in the hands of Arab jihadists, terrorists groups, Hussein’s off shore bank accounts or lying in French Banks. It is the largest fraud in history.

Here are some highlights from Mr. Volcker’s findings:
-The UN official in charge of the Iraqi Oil for Food program Ben Sevan, [who appointed directly by secretary General Kofi Annan], and his staff never informed the UN about Iraq's various kickback schemes -- involving as many as 2,500 companies.

-Sevan fought the Bush Administration's successful attempt to impose retroactive pricing standards on the sale of Iraqi oil, which helped curb some of Saddam's abuses.

-Kofi Annan was complicit in covering up Iraqi violations of the sanctions regime and knew of the kickback issue from at least February 2001.

-Annan declared the US led invasion illegal but never once bothered to say the same about the Oil for Food program in which tens of billions of dollars went missing and which supported Hussein’s purchase of military hardware, and his buying off through contracts, of French, Russian, German and Chinese firms and their political support on the UN security council. [many other analysts as well, have documented the flow of money from Iraq to these countries].

-Volcker’s report clearly states that Hussein derived $10.2 billion from illicit transactions during the program’s life time. More importantly Hussein gave 10 times that sum toward his preferred clients in the aforementioned countries, in the service of his political aims.

-Russian companies, for instance, did $19 billion in oil deals with Iraq, the French somewhat less, and billions of dollars in oil concessions and oil vouchers were given to French, Russian, German, and Chinese firms and politicians. The oil vouchers were discounted oil shares that could be redeemed at a higher market price.

-French companies sold Hussein $3 billion in humanitarian assistance which was diverted for Iraqi military purchases. Billions of dollars in contracts went yearly to French, German, Chinese and Russian firms for military hardware purchases, and the buying of communications equipment, electronics products, and sundry other infrastructure items.

So now the naked truth about the UNO in Iraq is coming to light. The UNO watched while 300.000 Iraqi’s were murdered, as their friends in France, Russia, China and Germany made billions in illegal profits. The UNO watched the money flow to Hussein who gave it to terrorist groups and who was actively building up his own military. The UNO descried the US led invasion as illegal, but did not mind that money was flowing to terrorist groups and to illegal weapons purchases to fight against the US and civilization’s interests. The UNO did nothing to bring Hussein’s regime down and defend the rights of ordinary Iraqi’s since they were too busy themselves making money from Iraq. Iraq was the largest UN revenue program in history and UN officials were part of the kick-backs and bribes and this explains the UN’s opposition to the US led invasion.

Indeed at the UNO the rot goes all the way to the top, to Annan himself. Here we have Annan and the UNO supporting a terrorist regime, whilst kickbacks, bribes, and illicit, illegal transactions to France, Russia, Germany, China, North Korea and various Arab states, in direct violation of its own rules and resolutions, were freely given. The immorality and dangerous nature of the UNO in Iraq, has certainly been exposed. The question is - will there ever be a reform on the UN in the international political economy?
