The cult parading as a church of L Ron Hubbard has quite a bit in common with the eco-cult of Al Gore parading as a religion. The similarities are striking. Bizarre theories. Unproven and anti-scientific ideas. Distortions, fantasies and exaggerations. Violent, militant members who verbally and physically attack detractors. A culture of intolerance, supreme arrogance, and narcissism. Ant-Christian, anti-modern, anti-humanist ideas. Welcome to the brave new world of brainwashed cults masquerading as moral projects.
L. Ron Hubbard, like L. Ron Gore was a fraud. Hubbard founded in the 1950s and 1960s a money making cult machine. He is famously quoted as saying that his ‘church’ of scientology was about making money. Like L. Ron Gore, Hubbard proffered truly bizarre and dumb theories which can be melted down into two main ideas: 1. that real human spirituality and ‘soul’ regeneration can be achieved through the use of applied technology and techniques developed by and paid to, the scientology sect and 2. that humans are descended from an alien race and are immortal.
Like L. Ron Gore, L. Ron Hubbard was a professional huckster. The whole idea of his cult was to build up power and pay L. Ron lots of money. Today his cult comprises some 100.000 or so active members. All these members pay money to join the cult. The more money you pay the more ‘revelations’ and knowledge you receive. As a critic of scientology points out on his website:
‘…..That is after you have handed over about $50,000 to them to reach this privileged secret level. They reveal to you that you are full of the souls of dead space aliens who were brought to Earth, 75 million years ago, by an evil galactic ruler named Xenu in an attempt to solve galactic overpopulation. Trillions of aliens were supposedly frozen in a mixture of alcohol and glycol and flown across space, from neighboring solar systems, in DC-8 identical space-planes. They were then stacked around volcanoes on Earth and nuked with H-bombs, after which their souls clustered together and now infest our bodies as "body thetans".’
As with L. Ron Gore, Hubbard’s mad mutterings are deemed by his followers as wise words indicating a chosen path of enlightenment. They should of course only lead one to an asylum. Hubbard believed that his cult was truly a religion writing in 1969 that, ‘It is fundamentally an applied religious philosophy.’ Of course it is not. It is a fundamental business proposition brainwashing dimwits like John Travolta and Tom Cruise to part with their money.
In Europe Scientology is classified as either a business [Germany]; a cult [France]; or a sect [most of the rest]. A French study in 1999 concluded that Scientology was a cultish sect and should be watched by the state. German and American studies have reported widespread financial fraud; brainwashing; seizure of assets; violent intimidation; and forced payment of fees for services by Scientologists against innocents and members. People have even lost their houses to the sect for non-payment of various ‘fees’.
Scientology has all the characteristics of a cult. The impassioned charismatic leader. The anti-modern, anti-humanist message. A corrupt self interested elite. Bizarre liturgy, rules and heavy fees or taxes. A rejection of rationality and debate. A desire to be the only universal philosophy dominating the planet. Extraordinary intolerance and violence. Excessive brainwashing propaganda. The same can be said of course for the Globaloney Warming crusader.
Like L. Ron Hubbard, L. Ron Gore is an unmistakenly dull and boorish man, in possession of a dangerous concept: pervert reality to fashion together a cult to achieve prominence and power. As with all cult leaders the L. Ron Gore messiah complex overshadows reality. Rationality, debate, understanding and compromise are not the tenets of the eco-cult. Intimidation, intolerance, irrational ideas, and financial scams are as much a part of the Globaloney warming cult, as they are major components of the Scientology sect.
Both Scientology and the eco-cult engage in ridiculous rhetoric of doom and gloom and anti-humanist posturing. Scientology proposes that the modern world and reality somehow corrupt the pure wonderful human’s soul. In order to recapture the essence of the human soul an individual must go through extensive treatment, using of course the cult’s tools and techniques. Only after extensive rehabilitation, costing many thousands of dollars, will a person begin to see the light of scientology’s reality. They will see the extent of human potential and realize that since we are descended from aliens, that our life on earth is but one life of many. Alien technology, not human capacity seemingly created the modern world.
While different in emphasis from L. Ron Gore’s eco-cult, L. Ron Hubbard’s irrational and inane gibberish mirrors that of the earth cult. According to high priest Gore and his friends the earth is in terrible shape; human beings are little monsters; capitalism and modernity are destructive artifacts which kill our mother earth; American and Jewish systems of development must be eradiated; a high priest elite must manage our transition to pagan pre-modern systems of development; and anyone who disagrees should be screamed at, insulted, flogged and hung in the public square.
And oh by the way, please pay money to the elite controlled corporations so you can reduce your ‘carbon footprint’ whatever that may mean. If you can't reduce your heavy, soulless footprint at least pay more in taxes, fees and standard of living reductions to appease the earth mother and gain acceptance into an after life. In other words, pay some money to the cult and we will allow you to join us in self righteous expostulations of moral greatness. And also please don’t wash your hair with shampoo, the mother earth will get angry.
As Cardinal Pell of Sydney commented on the cult of Globaloney warming; ‘What we were seeing from the doomsdayers was an induced dose of mild hysteria, semi-religious if you like, but dangerously close to superstition…I would be surprised if industrial pollution, and carbon emissions, had no ill effect at all. But enough is enough.’
Indeed enough is enough with the cults. Grow up. If you want spiritual enlightenment it might suggested that joining L. Ron Hubbard’s or Gore’s cultish gang is not highly intelligent. Paying money to feel good about yourself, or destroying civilization, or engaging in bashing Christians, the modern world or the market economy is moronic. Technology saves the environment. Technology is produced by wealthy nations. Nations with systems that promote wealth are better for the environment. Rather a simple calculus.
Same with the scientology sect. It is about as relevant a ‘religion’ as Islam. Screaming in people’s faces that some creed where humans are really aliens; where the soul is in torment because of the sufferings of alien forbearers; and where reality is the cause of misery is about as intelligent as screaming at someone that a pagan Arabian moon cult based on 3000 years of pre-modern, irrational practices is now de-facto a religion of peace.
When one sees the fanaticism of the followers of the earth cult and scientology one does despair about the intelligence of the average human. This is why the cults of L. Ron Hubbard and L. Ron Gore will continue to acquire power, influence and large profits. P. T. Barnum was on to something wasn’t he?
