Canberra Times newspaper, Thursday August 8 1968. It was settled science that the Arctic had to be 'warmed up', due to globaloney-cooling. Apparently they had no concerns about an ice-free Arctic, unlike today where an expanding and cooling Arctic is considered a disastrous proof of boiling ocean waters, climate-change, and mankind's parasitical destruction of Gaia. Enter the 'scientists' and 'experts' of 1968 and their socialist-engineering to save the Arctic...[emphasis mine, newspaper link]:

“CANADIAN experts are studying a revolutionary Russian plan to dam the Bering Strait and warm up the climate of the Northern Hemisphere. Arctic Sea ice would vanish, Canadian winters would be warmer and tundra would be transformed into cattle-raising regions. The project, according to Soviet scientists, would return the earth to its climatic conditions of 5,000 years ago when the Arctic Basin was ice-free the year round.

Cooling began about 4,000 years ago and has continued to the present era.

The proposed dam, 50 miles across, would pump cold Arctic water into the Pacific. This would enable warmer Atlantic water to flow into the Arctic Basin.

The Russian proposals are contained in an article by scientist P. M. Borisov in the Soviet publication Priroda. Borisov said it would take only three years to warm up the Arctic Basin with Atlantic water to the extent that Arctic Sea ice would disappear....-AAP [Australian Assoc. Press]”

So the quackitists of 1968 wanted to build a huge dam at public expense. Through this dam they would pump out the cold Arctic water, inviting in warmer Atlantic water to replenish the basin. By doing this they would return the Arctic to its 'natural' state of some 5.000 years ago....I assume that these experts were not only mentally unbalanced, but suffered from the extensive disease of hubristic self-importance, assuming themselves to be gods who can alter the 1 million variables of weather and climate to their liking.....stupid is not science.
