Merkel says the obvious; multi-culturalism is a failure. Only in the media would this be classified as 'news'. Any person living in reality has long known that the cult of multicultures was an absurd fallacy. Cultures are not equal. They are not relative. Theologies are not equal. Faiths are not relative. Organizations and people are not equal. They are likewise not relative. Only a theorist mired in a fantasy world could possibly come up with the idea that a state based on multi-cultures would be better off than a state unified by higher ideals embedded in a mono-culture. Multiculturalism is a failure because it is absurd.

Last August a high ranking Bundesbank official Thilo Sarrazin wrote a best selling book, in which he warned against the growing Islamization of Germany. Good for him. For his pains he was of course fired. Yet sadly for the intolerant Leftists Sarrazin's book remains at the top of the country's best-seller lists. Sarrazin was simply pointing out the obvious.

So too is Merkel, who is always described as a moderate [usually a code word for a socialist], and a national leader who has been criticized from within the party in the past year for alienating main stream conservatives and a large cadre of German voters. Merkel knows that the multi-cult is a failure and an intellectual aberration of theorists and Marxists. Criticizing the multi-cult is not only good politics, it is a refreshing injection of reality and fresh air into the political atmosphere.

The facts are plain. Travel to Germany. Look around. There are some 16-18 million non-Germans in the 65 million German population or about 25% of the total. The majority are Turkish and Muslim. Whenever Islam establishes itself there is usually a parallel community which is set up – along with demands for Sharia, Muslim only-enclaves and violence against Jews and anyone who dares to criticize the Meccan cult. This is obvious throughout Europe in Holland, France, Belgium, Sweden, Norway and the UK where very large Muslim communities have taken root. There is no assimilation. Just apparent domination by Muslims of the host society.

The nostrums about 'immigration' and the 'needed value' of immigrants fades into irrelevant and aberrant rhetoric when one views the complete lack of assimilation by Muslim immigrants into their host European societies. That is the issue here. Immigration per se can be positive or negative. But when you import a political theocracy or culture which views itself as superior you are simply negating your own culture and promoting the vapidity of a multi- or non-cultural system. According to the WSJ:

Germany has done relatively little to integrate its immigrant population over the years. Critics say that as a result, the foreigners don't speak adequate German, often lack basic skills and have become a drag on the country's welfare system. Instead of multiculturalism, German conservatives have called for integration through policies such as mandatory language courses and other measures that force immigrants to assimilate.

Ms. Merkel's party has railed against multiculturalism for years, arguing for the primacy of German Leitkultur, a term that evokes the country's Judeo-Christian traditions, as well as the principles of the age of the enlightenment.

Yet the timing of Ms. Merkel's comments, which come in the midst of a public debate over what Germany can do to better integrate immigrants, many of whom are Muslim, has drawn attention. Polls indicate that a growing number of Germans believe that too many of the country's foreigners live in what are often referred to as "parallel communities" with little or no connection with German culture.

The first line is pregnant with meaning; 'Germany has done relatively little to integrate its immigrant population..'. What does that mean? How about this? Immigrants – mostly Muslim – have not done their job integrating into German Judeo-Christian and Enlightenment culture. Why is the WSJ blaming Germany – an abstraction embedded in a nation state? Why doesn't it ask the more important question – why won't Muslims integrate themselves into Germanic life? That is the main issue.

For Leftists the real villain is of course Germanic nationalism. Even 'conservative' talk radio hosts such as Tom Sullivan conflate Merkel and the average German's denunciation of the multi-cult; as somehow manifesting a bias against immigrants. This is absurd. The multi-cult is a failure because multi-cultures don't survive nor flourish – monocultures on the other hand do. When you eradicate your own history; denigrate your own culture; refashion reality to where all 'cultures' contributed to the modern world; than you are completely lost as a person and as a society. Merkel is just stating the obvious.

"This is a country that brought guest workers to Germany in the 1960s," she said, referring to the foreign laborers who arrived in Germany in droves to work in factories during the country's postwar economic boom. "For a while, we kidded ourselves into believing that they wouldn't stay and would leave. Naturally, the notion that we would become 'multiculti,' that we would live next to one another and be happy about one another, failed."

The failure of multiculturalism – which is obvious to anyone who is sentient – is not about immigration. Attracting skilled people, capital and ideas is necessary. Not many people dispute the idea that 'new blood' is a boon for a society. But this is only true when the immigrant is educated, interested in learning the language, culture and history of his adopted home; and respects the institutions of that nation state. Today we have too many immigrants doing the opposite, who are uneducated but quite ferocious in demanding that 'we' appease and conform to 'their' standards; and who insist that our welfare system and generosity immediately give help and succour to any and all of their aspirations and demands. Multiculturalism is a failure because it is an ignorant theory based on self-loathing, a lack of pride, and utopian beliefs which are at odds with reality.
